Responsibilities: Job Purpose:

This position will be responsible for assisting the engineering manager in new product development and the managing of Engineering Department concerning product design, technical information, engineering drawings, photometric performance, electrical and EMC compliance.

Key responsibilities:

• Reviews and evaluates engineering work strategies and determines resources required to complete engineering projects within the agreed timeframe.
• Ensures that products are designed, developed, tested and manufactured in accordance with budgeted objectives to obtain maximum profitability, having regard to manufacturing capacity and capital invested in plant and inventory.
• Develops and controls tactical level activities such as representation on regulatory and statuary committees to keep the company’s products and services at the leading edge of technology and regulation.
• Maintains and seeks to improve the company’s competitive position through business growth and product development.
• Develops the broad policies with the Technical Manager and the Marketing Department on development of new products and plans for increased market penetration based on market research.
• Ensures that all engineering and testing personnel are trained to perform their jobs effectively.
• Ensures sound and continuing education on latest technology developments locally and overseas, through supplier in-house training or external courses.
• Maintains suitable levels of contact with the market and regularly visits State branches and customers within those States.
• Reviews and improves the engineering and testing service functions as required.
• Maintains sound working relationships with customers, branches, suppliers, regulators and technical departments.
• Motivates Engineering Development personnel and exercises policy supervision over all technical activities.
• Works closely with the Business Development Managers, consultants and external Clients.
• Works closely with the Marketing and Production Departments to ensure product conforms to the regulatory requirements, such as EMC and electrical design codes.

Requirements: Relevant qualifications:

• Diploma of Design Sciences Illumination.? Dip. Des. Sc. (Illum).
• Bachelor of Engineering (BE Electrical Engineering).
• An experienced electrical engineer with tertiary qualifications relevant to the electrical/electronics field.
• Have or obtain qualifications towards becoming a Member of the IESANZ.

Relevant experience:

• Experience in the lighting industry is highly regarded.
• Requires wide business experience and extensive knowledge of the company’s activities, with the ability to innovate and communicate ideas effectively.
• Maintains a persuasive and credible presentation style.
• Skills in negotiation, staff motivation and leadership.
• Membership of relevant industry standards committees.
• Proven record of sound dealing with regulatory, statutory and government authorities.
